#Hunt for Wimbledon

Anyone seen this?  The Robinson's people were looking at our club to site one of these balls. In the end it was decided that they required a more public place.  Well I think they have found just the spot. Has anyone seen where any other balls are. Apparently they are positioned in various locations around the UK.
.
..
If you take a picture and tweet it to #Hunt for Wimbledon you might win something.  Well it's worth a go, do you know where it is yet?

The Vital Spark.

You may have heard or worse been caught up in the recent problems we have been encountering with the electricity supply to the club gate.  This is, we are assured, a temporary glitch that will be sorted out very soon.
.
.
In case you are interested, the problem is to do with the builders next door.  They are the people who fit the electrical connections for us and until things are finalised at Nazareth House  our supply relies on them.
Should you get stuck and unable to open the gate with your fob we may be able to get you in via the big gates.  Once in you simply come out via the usual way.  Fingers crossed the problem will not persist.
Prayer mats out for the big switch on before the Summer Fete.
Did I mention that it is on Saturday 11th July from 12 noon until 4.00pm ?

A helping hand.

Perhaps it's not so often we get the chance to help, in some small way, a local group who are working hard to improve our environment. In the words of Little Britain, 'this is a local environment for local people.'  So anything that helps to make where we live a little better must be a good thing.  http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/unioncorner follow this link for more information.
Get to the point man!  Sorry my message is that our tennis club has pledged £50 towards the funding for the work outlined in the above link.  We did our bit so that we, the Stonehouse Village People, can be proud of our neighbourhood. [not sure if that came out quite right]

800th anniversary of the stamping of the Magna Carta

As can be seen on the somewhat ancient pictures from 1215 the momentous events of 15th June 1215 were simply a prelude to the launching of our blog.  Perhaps ours should be called Parvus Carta, we don't wish to be overly pretentious now do we ?

email subscriptions

So, here it is.  Good old Google have put in a new thing called email subscriptions.  This makes life even easier for everyone, not just the Luddites.
When you log onto the blog main page look to the right hand side and you will see a small rectangular window with email address written in it.  If you type in your email address and send it off you will be asked to verify your email and then the magic will occur.  Each and every time there is an update to the blog you will receive an email notifying you of the posting.  Now, it is up to you whether or not you choose to read it. In my humble it would be churlish not to but what do I know ? Hmmmm.
.
Go on have a go.  What's the worst that could happen ?

Wanna Join a great local club ?

This is a great space for playing games including tennis, of course, croquet, boule or petanque if you prefer, a bit of a kick around with a footie.  Or you can simply enjoy the peace and quiet of our secret garden have a sit or a sit and read or, my personal favourite, a little examination of the back of the eyelids.
.
Each Tuesday evening from May until September we have a social gathering where we play a little croquet have a chat and maybe the odd glass of something to oil the wheels.  That starts around 6.30pm and goes on until we finish.
.
If you fancy joining but would like to have a look around first then contact Marilyn on stennisclub14@gmail.com and she will sort out the finer details with you.  Go on, you know it makes sense.

PS Don't forget the SUMMER FETE on Saturday 11th July 12noon until 4.00pm.  A great day out !

Beginners Guide - How to play croquet.

It might be a good time to brush up on a few of the finer points of the game.  There appears to be several versions and it is highly possible that we are playing a version which seems to include a smattering of each.  A mongrel game, perhaps a good thing.
Anyway here we have the official guide for beginners to the Oxford Rules game.

Raffle at the Fete

You may or may not have seen books of raffle tickets being hawked around.  Please try and sell a few and, of course, buy a few.  As the saying has it, 'you can't win the raffle without a ticket'.
.
..
And, as ever, there are some great prizes.  So speculate to accumulate, you know it makes sense.  The raffle will be drawn on the day, did I say it was July 11th, and I think the lottery winners will be announced on that day too.
Listen out for Tom on the megaphone,
.

.
you can't get him off it once he gets into his stride.
BTW anyone can have a go on the megaphone for £1 a word, rude words cost more and very rude words are a fortune so do not be tempted...

how to keep up with Blog www.stonehousetc.blogspot.com

Well you can keep having a look using the link:
www.stonehousetc.blogspot.com (could be tiresome).
Or you could follow Fred Perry@stonehousetc1 on the Twitter account.
Or follow the hyper link https://twitter.com/stonehousetc1
They both get you there via slightly different routes.
.
Fairly straightforward or what.
.
Best to follow Fred, he knows the score.  If you enable the notification on your Twitter account each and every time news is posted on the blog you will be notified.  Easy peasey  squeeze the lemons.
.
Once you get comfortable with using the blog you may email your thoughts, ideas, rants, prayers etc., to Fred on stonehousetc@gmail.com
Or you may simply add your comment to the comments box to be found at the end of each post.  You may do this using your name, your pseudonym or anonymously.  At the moment all comments are moderated, that is to say we check them for bad language and offensive content.  Fred is hoping this can be removed fairly quickly so long as everyone behaves.
.
Go on have a go, you know it makes sense...

Mallet, ball, hoop, a jug of wine and thou.

Yes, well although the croquet season is under way we managed to have the postponed launch party last night and it felt like a great success.  A few rounds of the 'cruellest game of all' soon had everyone rushing for barbecued sustenance with a little tincture to wash it down.
So successful was the evening that we were in danger of running out of everything except Mutarde Dijonaise and vegetarian celariac rolls (yum).  not sure if they are eaten separately or together.
Against all odds the caramel vodka went down a treat.  So much so that I suspect the celariac Dijon eaters probably finished that off.
A great group gathered and garrulously guffawed the evening into night.
Big thanks to Jayne for the organising and execution with special mentions to little Joe who started off the cooking and big Victor who finished it.  Big thanks to all who attended and made this a memorable occasion.  HMS Delectable obviously enjoyed the festivity, distinctly heard her shriek Whoop, Whoop, Whoop!
.

..
So, there we have it.  Can anyone see a sad face ?  I think not, it was a terrific BBQ.
